Skin Care Trends to Consider in 2009

with one comment

In this economic environment, now more than ever should you focus on treatments that can allow you to be more competitive in your work environment. The following are hot skin care trends for 2009 according to US sources.

1. Non-invasive laser or light treatments

With the improvement in laser and IPL systems, we can achieve better results more than ever before. Consider the area of non-surgical skin tightening. Rather than going under the knife for a facelift, consider non-surgical approaches such as the Titan, which is the first infrared device that Hollywood has called as the “non-surgical facelift”, without downtime, and which is safe for all skin types. Another example is Laser Genesis, which is USFDA approved for the management of fine wrinkles, pores, and other textural concerns. Both these treatments stimulate the fibroblasts in the dermis, and clinical biopsy studies demonstrate enhanced collagen growth than continues for months after the treatments have been completed.

2. Minimally invasive skin resurfacing treatments

You may have heard of CO2 or Erbium laser resurfacing. These older resurfacing devices have great results but are associated with downtime that lasts up to several months. Fractionated treatments shorten the downtime but because a fractional treatment only treats a certain percentage of the skin surface, 5-6 treatments are required to cover the entire surface of the skin. Enter newer resurfacing devices, an example of which is the Pearl (by Cutera, Inc, USA). This US FDA approved device removes pigments, sun damage, fine lines, pores and superficial acne scars with one to two treatments with minimal downtime. The Pearl can also be used to reduce fine lines around the eyes!

3. Home Hair growth systems

Our hair plays such an important role to our personal style and to our self-esteem. Older methods for hair loss include long term intake of medications (such as Propecia), or long-term application of hair growth products such as minoxidil. Over time the cost of these two products can reach several thousands of dollars. Consider instead the USFDA approved home laser device known as the HairMax. With this system, clinical studies demonstrate 93.5% increase in hair number and over 60% increase in hair resiliency. Combing your hair 10 minutes every other day, without pain and at the comfort of your home, and see results in as little as 12 weeks.

4. Organic Mineral Make-up

One report in the US suggests that organic skin care growth has outpaced other beauty products in the US for the past 2 years. Consider Mineral Fusion- an organic version of the famous gloMinerals line of mineral make-up.

5. Eyelash growth treatments

A product to consider is “Revitalash”, which has been around for several years. It is applied once a day as a colorless liquid eyeliner and users have noted increased number and length of existing eyelashes. Also to watch out for is Latisse (bimatoprost), which is a recently US FDA approved for hair growth.
